Eggman, Wolk and Monning comment on end of extraordinary session, Implementation of End of Life Option Act
SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Susan Talamantes Eggman (D-Stockton) and Senators Lois Wolk (D-Davis) and Bill Monning (D-Carmel) released the following joint statement on the adjournment of the state legislature’s second extraordinary session and the pending effective date of ABX2-15, the End of Life Option Act:
“Successfully passing this law was an uphill battle every step of the way. We were inspired and supported by the stories of struggle and pain that were shared by courageous advocates. The End of Life Option Act ensures that terminally ill Californians will not be denied death with dignity. We are grateful that the law will soon be in effect.”
Passed by the legislature on September 11, 2015 and signed by Governor Brown a month later on October 5, the End of Life Option Act will go into effect on June 9, 2016, the 91st day after the adjournment of the state legislature’s second extraordinary session.
