Assemblymember Levine Hosts “End of Life Options” Town Hall

Friday, February 12, 2016

(San Rafael, CA) – California State Assemblymember Marc Levine (D-San Rafael) hosted a “Personal Choice, End of Life Options” Town Hall in San Rafael.  The purpose of the gathering was to discuss Assembly Bill 15 (Eggman) in the Second Extraordinary Session, which was signed into law by Governor Brown.  The law will allow dying Californians and their doctors to make end of life decisions regarding their passing.  ABX2-15 will allow mentally stable, terminal patients with six months or less to live to seek a physician’s prescription for life-ending medication that would allow the patient to pass in a painless manner, rather than endure on-going pain and suffering prior to their impending death.  Over 200 people packed the San Rafael City Council Chambers to hear about the new law.  Community members were able to ask questions and make comments.  The law’s author, Assemblymember Susan Talamantes-Eggman (D-Stockton) along with end of life advocates and experts answered questions and gave useful information to the standing-room-only crowd.  Assemblymember Levine moderated the event.  Watch this Assembly Access Video to see a portion of the town hall meeting.
