Flood Management Infrastructure Prioritized in Revised Budget Proposal

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Carlos Villapudua (D-Stockton) applauded the Governor’s inclusion of $40 million for the San Joaquin River Floodplain restoration in his revised budget proposal.

“I am relieved and grateful that the Administration has prioritized an essential investment for flood management within the San Joaquin Valley,” said Assemblymember Villapudua. “Every dollar we put towards flood management will help save lives, critical infrastructure, and our water supply down the line. I’m pleased that this issue is getting the spotlight it needs and deserves right now.”

In April, the California Problem Solvers Caucus sent a letter to the Governor urging him to maintain this $40 million in the state budget that was originally allocated in 2022.

The 2022 Update of the Central Valley Flood Protection Plan estimates that flooding in the near future can put millions of lives at risk and cause $1 trillion in damages to critical infrastructure and agricultural land throughout the Central Valley. Proactive investments through the budget process and bond proposals like AB 305 have the opportunity to save us from this catastrophe.
