Strong Budget Reserves Ready to Play an Important Role

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Carlos Villapudua (D-Stockton) released the following statement today following Governor Newsom’s initial Budget Proposal.

“The Governor’s proposed budget earlier this week reflects the importance of the fiscally responsible steps we have taken to provide stability during uncertain times like these,” said Assemblymember Villapudua. “With projections of a $22.5 billion deficit, I am hopeful that our strong reserves will help us maintain needed investments to support our small business community, expand access to affordable housing, and combat the fentanyl crisis.

“We will face a number of difficult decisions this year, but I am encouraged by the proposed investments into the Central Valley for flood and drought support, as well as for economic development within our community. I look forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues in the Legislature to ensure San Joaquin County gets its fair share of the financial support we need from the State.”
