SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Carlos Villapudua (D-Stockton) recognized Karen Rickman as Woman of the Year for Assembly District 13 at this year’s Woman Making Herstory event.
“This recognition is long overdue for Karen Rickman,” said Assemblymember Villapudua. “Her many years of volunteer service across numerous fields in our community has left a lasting impression of mentorship and leadership for countless individuals. We are beyond lucky to call her one of our own.”
The Legislative Women’s Caucus hosts an annual Woman of the Year ceremony in Sacramento to honor one woman from each Assembly District making herstory in her community.
Karen Rickman has showcased what it means to put one’s community first. Her years mentoring within 4-H, coaching middle-school volleyball, and volunteering in the classroom has helped equip our youth with important leadership and cooperative skills during their pivotal years.
Karen has also helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for the art community of Tracy, supported veterans and their families through Wreaths Across America and Gone But Not Forgotten, and regularly assists in community cleanup activities with United Sikhs. She is a well-deserving recipient of a President’s Volunteer Service Award.
The Woman Making Herstory event celebrated Karen Rickman and 79 other distinguished women across California on the Assembly Floor on March 20.
