SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY – The California State Library recently announced the award of $10 million to the Cesar Chavez Central Library.
“Our libraries play a crucial role as a community hub for information and connectivity,” said Assemblymember Villapudua (D-Stockton). “This level of support from the State will go a long way in modernizing these facilities to provide a safe and welcoming space for families to utilize for years to come.”
The California State Library issues grants provided by the $489 million Building Forward Library Facilities Improvement Program – the largest single investment ever made by the State into California’s network of over 1,100 public libraries.
The equity-based grant program helps address critical maintenance needs, improve energy efficiency and sustainability, and expand digital access.
The $10 million awarded to the Cesar Chavez Central Library will go towards needed remodeling for seismic bracing and the replacement of essential building systems.
