SACRAMENTO, CA – Rhodesia Ransom (D-Stockton) was officially sworn in today as the newest Assemblymember for California's 13th Assembly District in a ceremony held at the State Capitol in Sacramento. Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas (D-Salinas) administered the oath, marking the beginning of Ransom’s term representing the vibrant communities within the district, including Stockton, Tracy and Mountain House.
“I’ve spent my career standing up for people, and I’m proud to represent the people of Assembly District 13,” said Ransom. “I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue my work to provide economic opportunity for all, reduce costs, strengthen accountability and education, and protect our neighborhoods. I’m ready to get to work and deliver results.”
Rhodesia Ransom brings a wealth of experience to the State Assembly, having previously served on the Tracy City Council and held leadership roles in various community-based organizations. With her extensive background in public service, a solid commitment to criminal justice reform, and a passion for uplifting underserved communities, she is well-equipped to champion the issues that matter most to her constituents.
A Proven Leader for San Joaquin County
Throughout her career, Ransom has fiercely advocated empowering families, improving public safety, and ensuring economic development. Her work has included launching initiatives to lower the cost of living, stand up against crime, and bring good-paying jobs to the 13th Assembly District. As a seasoned public servant, she has consistently prioritized collaboration with stakeholders to find sustainable solutions to the region's most pressing issues.
Ransom earned her Master’s in Public Administration, equipping her with the knowledge and skills to address complex policy challenges effectively. As a nonprofit leader and city councilmember in Tracy, Rhodesia has created opportunities for youth and solved problems to improve quality of life for residents. Rhodesia and her husband reside in Tracy, where they raised their three children and have been active community members for over two decades.
Looking Ahead: A Vision for the Future
In her new role, Ransom plans to focus on key legislative priorities that include:
- Expanding Access to Quality Education: Advocating for increased funding and resources to support public schools and higher education institutions.
- Addressing Homelessness and Housing: Working on comprehensive strategies to combat the housing crisis, focusing on affordable housing and supportive services.
