Asm. Ransom Hosts Emergency Webinar for San Joaquin County Leaders as ICE Raids Expand into Northern California

For immediate release:

What You Need to Know: ICE raids are no longer limited to Southern California- confirmed activity is now occurring in Northern California. With the deployment of the National Guard and escalating federal crackdowns, Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom is working to ensure San Joaquin County leaders and residents are informed and prepared.

Stockton, CA – Amid intensifying federal immigration enforcement across California, Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom, Chair of the Committee on Emergency Management—with oversight of Cal OES and Homeland Security—hosted an emergency webinar today to help prepare San Joaquin County communities for potential large-scale ICE operations.

According to Reuters, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) tripled its daily arrest targets from 1,000 to 3,000, aiming for record-level deportations under directives from the Trump administration. These actions include targeting migrant workers at job sites and arresting individuals during routine ICE check-ins—regardless of criminal history.

More than 150 participants joined the virtual briefing, including service providers, school administrators, labor advocates, local officials, and community organizers. The webinar was organized in response to recent ICE raids in Los Angeles, which led to over 100 arrests and the deployment of federal troops. Reports now confirm similar enforcement activity in Northern California, including in San Jose and Madera.

Assemblymember Ransom stressed the importance of proactive community readiness, stating:

“California was built by immigrants. We cannot have the fourth-largest economy in the United States without the contributions of the immigrant community. Immigrants contribute to our culture, our economy, and they pay taxes just like everyone else.”

The secure webinar provided critical information, including know-your-rights guidance, emergency planning for families, and strategies for schools, businesses, and agencies to support and protect vulnerable populations. Legal experts from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) facilitated the session.
